Nominator's project description
| Professor Refael is one of the most prominent theoretical condensed matter physicists of his generation. He has made seminal contributions to cutting-edge fields such as topological phases of matter and entanglement measures of correlated quantum systems. Recently, his proposal that Majorana fermions can be observed in semiconductor quantum wires has been successfully implemented in the laboratory, which may bring a decades-long search for Majorana fermions to an end. In Germany, his research will focus on ramifications of this discovery, which may open a door towards topological quantum computation. |
